Role Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Chief Audio System Design Engineer to lead the design architecture and development of audio systems and algorithms for advanced wearables. The candidate will have significant influence over the product development process contributing to innovations that directly impact user safety comfort and productivity. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of audio systems including architecture and algorithms/DSP for wearable devices.
  • Conduct empirical and subjective tuning measurements and critical listening of systems under development.
  • Model and simulate acoustic systems including microphone arrays and signal processing algorithms.
  • Build acoustic testing frameworks and backend systems.
  • Prototype audio systems using basic electronics and hardware.
  • Collaborate with toptier vendors including chip microphone and transducer suppliers throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with mechanical DSP and electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration of audio components.

Requirements

Required

  • 2 years of experience designing acoustic systems for wearable devices (e.g. headphones earbuds).
  • 5 years of experience in acoustic testing measurement and working with tools such as Audio Precision Klippel Clio or SoundCheck/Listen.
  • 3 years of experience with audio algorithms and digital signal processing (DSP).
  • Indepth knowledge of audio ASICs transducers microphones amplifiers and DSP systems.
  • Strong understanding of acoustics and psychoacoustics with excellent critical listening skills.
  • Familiarity with both current and emerging technologies in wearable audio.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. within 3 months with no restrictions on international travel.
  • Ability to commute to the Chicago office on a daily basis.

Preferred

  • 5 years of experience developing audio systems for wearables including features like adaptive noise cancellation and transparency modes.
  • Handson experience with Qualcomm GreenWaves ADI or Airoha chipsets.
  • 3 years of experience in psychoacoustics.
  • A strong background in acoustics electrical engineering mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred but not required.
Options for remote work but must have the ability to come into the NYC office as needed for meetings. Ultra High-End Residential Audiovisual and Smart Home designs, working with high net-worth family offices, architects, home designers, and the internal design team. Supervisory experience a must- will have 5 direct reports. Residential AV experience is required, ideally a minimum of 5 years. Experience with design for large-scale residential AV projects, $200,000 or higher.

Education

Options for remote work but must have the ability to come into the NYC office as needed for meetings. Ultra High-End Residential Audiovisual and Smart Home designs, working with high net-worth family offices, architects, home designers, and the internal design team. Supervisory experience a must- will have 5 direct reports. Residential AV experience is required, ideally a minimum of 5 years. Experience with design for large-scale residential AV projects, $200,000 or higher.
