Under the direct direction of the Materials & Stores Supervisor II, CF, the Materials and Stores Supervisor I, CF (M&SSI), is responsible for the receipt, storage, issuance, and shipping of laundry and personal care supplies. Within the assigned clothing room, incumbents maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated people assigned to their work area; prevent escapes and injury by them to themselves or others or to property; maintain security of working areas and work materials; inspect premises and search incarcerated people for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs; may instruct, lead or supervise incarcerated people; and do other job related work.

Working Conditions

About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.

The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers 31 male camps located throughout California.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Knowledge of: Modern warehousing methods and practices, including the keeping of receiving, shipping, and inventory records; freight rates and classifications; Office of Procurement specifications; regulations involved with consolidated freight shipments, stock array systems; freight claim procedure; operation of motorized material handling equipment; inventory and quality control.

Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; perform heavy physical labor; estimate possible future demands of various supplies based upon past needs; direct the work of others; keep accurate records and prepare reports of work done; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; learn the operation of forklifts and other types of motorized material handling equipment.
